Asian Pear Trees
Asian pears are round, like an apple, with a unique delicious taste. They need to be picked at peak ripeness because once picked, they ripen no further.
They are easy to grow and for the most part are trouble free. They fruit 1-2 years after planting and can store for many months under refrigeration or in a root cellar.
Asian pears are attacked by the Plum Curculio so they need protection, as described in the overview of fruit trees.
Also, some Asian varieties are susceptible to fireblight (like Niitaka), while others are highly resistant (like Korean Giant).
Varieties we are growing:
Chojuro on OHxF 333 rootstock
Korean Giant on Betulifolia rootstock
Shinko on OHxF 333 rootstock
Shinseiki on Betulifolia rootstock
For Asian Pear trees, the best rootstock is Betulifolia.
